Nebraska Set To Host Eagles and Redbirds

Huskers Welcome Eagles and Redbirds To Lincoln

The Huskers are set to host Eastern Michigan on Friday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. and Illinois State on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. in Lincoln, Neb. at the Nebraska Tennis Center. Nebraska sits at 1-3 overall after a tough 4-3 loss to Kansas on Jan. 31 against Assistant Coach German Dalmagro’s former program. After sweeping Creighton 7-0 and dropping two tough matches to Texas Tech and Georgia Tech, the Big Red are ready to get a winning streak going. Nebraska and Eastern Michigan have met nine times in history with Nebraska leading the series 9-0. NU has faced Illinois State a total of four times, with Nebraska sweeping the series at 4-0.

Huskers In The ITA National Rankings

Nebraska dropped to No. 49 in the ITA Top 75 after three consecutive losses against Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, and Kansas. The rankings were released on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The Big Red are one of seven Big Ten teams in the ITA Top 75. Nebraska is joined by No. 7 Northwestern, No. 13 Michigan, No. 30 Purdue, No. 36 Indiana, No. 43 Illinois and No. 57 Penn State. The Huskers are the sixth-highest ranked Big Ten team only trailed by No. 57 Penn State. Michigan and Northwestern are the only two Big Ten teams inside the top 25.

Sophomore Maggy Lehmicke, who is 19-14 overall on 11-5 singles and 8-9 doubles is ranked at No. 80 in the ITA Top 125 Singles national rankings after dropping from No. 63 in the previous list.

The Eagles aren’t nationally ranked with no ranked singles or doubles players in the ITA rankings. EMU went 9-13 in 2013 and 4-4 in the MAC. Nebraska and Eastern Michigan have met nine times throughout history, with Nebraska leading the series 9-0. The last match between the two was Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 which resulted in a 7-0 Nebraska victory.

The Redbirds aren’t nationally ranked with no ranked singles or doubles players in the ITA rankings. ISU went 10-13 in 2013 with a 4-3 mark in the MVC, falling 4-0 in the second round of the conference tournament to Wichita State. Nebraska and Illinois State have met four times throughout history, with Nebraska sweeping the series 4-0. The last match between the two teams was Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 which resulted in a 6-1 Nebraska victory.

Looking Ahead

Following this weekend, Nebraska are set to host Air Force and Northern Iowa at home on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively. Including this weekend’s matches, the Huskers have ten more home duals before they hit the road for their first regular season away match.
