Raedler Wins Long Jump at Drake Relays

Des Moines, Iowa- Patrick Raedler led the Huskers on the second day at the Drake Relays, tallying a win in the men’s long jump.

Raedler earned a victory on Friday with a first-place finish in the men’s long jump. He tallied a season-best leap of 25-5 ½ (7.76) on his final attempt of the competition to secure his first outdoor title of 2014. Raedler’s mark is currently first in the conference and eighth in the nation.

Steven Cahoy posted a third-place finish in the men’s pole vault, leading the Huskers in the event. He cleared 17-8 ½ (5.40), setting a new personal-best and moving up to a tie for first in the. The Grand Island, Neb., native also moved up to sixth all-time at Nebraska and 15th in the nation.

In the women’s long jump, Tierra Williams tallied a leap of 19-9 ¾ (6.04) to finish fifth. Marusa Cernjul notched a 10th-place finish in the women’s high jump with a leap of 5-7 ¾ (1.72).

In the women’s javelin, Sarah Firestone finished in third with a personal-best throw of 165-5 (50.41) that puts her at fourth all-time at Nebraska. Her throw is also third in the conference. Maggie Malone recorded a throw of 163-5 (49.82) to come in fourth. Tristen Sharp finished seventh in the women’s shot put as she posted a personal-best throw of 48-4 ½ (14.74).

Ellie Grooters tallied a fifth-place finish in the women’s 400-meter hurdles. She came in with another personal best, crossing the finish line in 58.43. Her time moves her up to second in the conference entering this weekend.

The men’s 4x800-meter relay team of Sidney Madlock, Nolan Border, Jackson Barbour and Alney Tobias came in seventh with a time of 7:34.50.

Nebraska volunteer coach Dusty Jonas finished third in the high jump Moscow Games rematch with a mark of 7-8 1/2.

The women’s 4x100-meter relay team of Breunna McCarty, Mara Weekes, Brena Andrews and Kadecia Baird advanced to tomorrow’s final with a seventh-place finish in the preliminary round, finishing with a season-best time of 45.19. The men’s team of John Welk, Dexter McKenzie, Ricco Hall and Tim Thomspon also advanced with a time of 40.21.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Drew Wiseman, Christian Sanderfer, Jake Bender and Levi Gipson qualified for the finals on Saturday. The team posted a sixth-place finish in the preliminary round, notching a season-best time of 3:06.24. The time is currently second in the Big Ten.
