Schryver Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

University of Nebraska's Eric Schryver is one of 29 recipients of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, the NCAA announced. Schryver will continue his studies in the fall, pursuing a M.D. at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He will graduate Saturday with his bahelor's degree in nutrition and health sciences.

To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in his or her final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative.

"It's no surprise to hear that Eric earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship," Nebraska head coach Chuck Chmelka said. "He's proven himself to be not only a great athlete and captain, but an excellent student. I couldn't think of anyone more deserving. I look forward to hearing all about his successes in medical school. He's got a bright future ahead."

Schryver set the Nebraska school record on pommel horse his freshman season and continues to hold it today. The Huskers' first men's gymnastics Big Ten medalist in the school's history ended his senior season qualifying for high bar for the 2014 NCAA Individual Event Semifinals. Schryver was also a consistent Winter Cup competitor. He tied for tenth on pommel horse at the 2012 Visa Championships, where he competed with the nation's best gymnasts.

Academically, the Richardson, Texas, native has earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors twice (2012-13), as well as first-team CGA Scholastic All-America and two Academic All-Big Ten honors. Schryver is also a five-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and a Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree.
