Three Huskers to Represent Team USA

Three Nebraska women’s bowlers were selected to represent Team USA this summer in competitions Tuesday. Junior Liz Kuhlkin, incoming freshman Julia Bond and former Husker Kayla Johnson were selected to compete in three events with Team USA.

Kuhlkin, a two-time NTCA First-Team All-American was selected to represent Junior Team USA at the upcoming World Bowling Youth Championships. The tournament will take place in Hong Kong from Aug. 8-15, you can watch the competition live HERE.

The Schalmont, N.Y., native is coming off of another tremendous season with the Nebraska bowling team, after earning NCAA Championship Most Valuable Bowler in NU’s 2013 National Championship run. She averaged a team-leading 206.7 season pinfall average during the 2014 season, earning her NTCA First-Team All-American honors for the second time in her career.

Incoming freshman Julia Bond was selected to compete at the Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas for Junior Team USA in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from July 27-Aug.1. The Aurora, Ill., native is regarded as the top high school bowling prospect in the country.

Former Husker standout Kayla Johnson of Washington, Ill., will represent Team USA at the Pan American Olympic Festival in Puebla, Mexico, from July 17-20. Johnson will be one of two women competing for Team USA at the tournament.

Johnson posted a team-best 216.2 average at the 2012 NCAA Championships for NU, including 74 pocket hits at the tournament. Her 210.4 average through 43 games on the season led the Huskers.
