Lincoln, Neb.- The NTCA top-rated Nebraska women’s bowling team continues its 2014-15 season as the Huskers will travel to the fourth-annual Track Kat Klash in Houston, Texas this weekend. The tournament is hosted by Sam Houston State University, at Emerald Lanes in Houston, and will feature a talented 18-team field.
Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub said the team is confident heading into their final tournament before the Huskers go on winter-break. Straub mentioned that it would be nice to go on break victorious.
“It is our last tournament before we go on winter-break, so we want to do our best to end like we started, by winning,” Straub said. “Hopefully that comes to fruition, the team has worked hard this week in practice.”
Straub added that for the first time the Huskers will travel eight members to Houston for the competition. With the additional team member traveling, Straub said it would not make much sense to take everyone down if they were not going to see some action on the lanes.
“This week are taking eight people, which is the first time we have done that. Freshman Kelly Belzeski is with us this week, and we are going to see if we can’t find some playing time for eight.”
According to Straub, the Huskers spent much of the week honing in on their fundamentals, as well as having good ‘jaw-sessions’ or team meetings. |
“Preparation for this went real well, a lot of hard work occurred. We had some talking sessions that in general I thought were really successful. We will see how it plays out.
Competition begins Friday morning at 10:10 a.m. with six sets of five-game Baker Pool Play (Baker format). The teams will be back for six-team game matches (Individual competition) Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Competition will conclude Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. with Baker Bracket Play, best-of-seven format.
