The Nebraska softball team added a talented player to its 2015 roster on Monday, Dec. 1. Cassie McClure, an All-Big 12 selection as a freshman at Texas Tech in 2014, will transfer to Nebraska in January and be immediately eligible to play for the Huskers this spring, Head Coach Rhonda Revelle announced.
A pitcher and utility player, McClure started 51 games as a freshman at Texas Tech in 2014. She was a second-team All-Big 12 selection and a third-team all-region honoree after batting .364 with eight doubles, nine home runs and 44 RBIs. She excelled in Big 12 Conference play, batting .348 and ranking second in the league with five home runs and 12 walks. In the circle, McClure was limited to only nine appearances due to a knee injury.
“We feel very fortunate to have a player the caliber of Cassie join our team. She has a proven track record as she made her mark offensively in a tough Big 12 Conference,” Revelle said. “Although her pitching was slowed as she recovered from a knee injury, Cassie had a stellar prep career in Texas as a pitcher. We look forward to her putting on the Nebraska jersey.”
McClure is one of eight newcomers on Nebraska’s 2015 roster. The Huskers, who have made back-to-back appearances in an NCAA Super Regional, begin practice in January and open the season against Colorado State on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, in Las Cruces, N.M.
