Wrestlers Earn Awards at Postseason Banquet

Several Husker wrestlers were honored at the team’s postseason banquet at Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

Robert Kokesh (174) garnered the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award for the third consecutive year. The three-time All-American finished his career with a record of 144-15 after posting a 39-1 mark as a senior. He finished third at the 2015 NCAA Championships after placing fourth in 2014 and third in 2013.

James Green (157) was awarded a special plaque as the second four-time All-American in school history. Green took third place at the NCAA Championships in 2014 and 2015 after finishing seventh in 2012 and 2013. He went 35-5 during his final season at Nebraska, and compiled a career record of 129-22.

Aaron Studebaker (197) and Eric Montoya (133) shared the Most Improved Wrestler Award after each making it to the Round of 12 at the NCAA Championships. Tyler Berger collected Redshirt-of-the-Year honors after compiling a 29-5 record during his first season at Nebraska. Heavyweight Collin Jensen earned the Lifter-of-the-Year Award. 

After the awards presentation, seniors John Svoboda, Nyle Bartling, Brandon Wilbourn, Spencer Johnson, Ian Ousley, Luis DeAnda, Green and Kokesh each reflected on their time at Nebraska. Head Coach Mark Manning also talked about the upcoming season before a video highlighting the 2014-15 season was shown.
