Huskers Shut Down Jacks in First Exhibition

Lincoln, Neb.—The Nebraska soccer team secured a 2-0 exhibition win over South Dakota State Wednesday night at the new Barbara Hibner Stadium in front of 703 fans.

Tied at the first half at 0-0, sophomore defender Alli Peterson and junior forward Jaycie Johnson scored a goal apiece in the second half to help lead the Big Red to victory. Peterson’s goal came in the 49th minute as she took advantage of a loose ball from the far left wing and put it in the right corner of the net.

Johnson followed suit in the 59th minute, heading in a shot near the box off of a corner kick from classmate Sydney Miramontez.

Sophomore Erika Johnson earned the start at goalie and notched two saves in 59 minutes for NU.

The Huskers return to Hibner Field for their second exhibition of the season against South Dakota on Friday at 7:05 p.m., before opening the regular season at home against Kansas on Aug. 21. Friday's exhibition will pay tribute to former NU assistant Peter Underwood, who was killed in a car accident last May.
