Huskers Kick Off Preseason

The Nebraska soccer team opened preseason practices on Wednesday in preparation for the upcoming 2015 season.

The Wednesday afternoon workout began two weeks of scheduled practice for the Huskers, as NU will start preseason play with a pair of exhibition games starting next week. The Big Red will take on South Dakota State in its first exhibition next Wednesday, Aug. 12 at the brand new Barbara Hibner Soccer Stadium, followed by a matchup with South Dakota on Friday, Aug. 14. Nebraska opens the regular season on Friday, Aug. 21 against former Big 12 rival Kansas.

Head Coach John Walker enters his 22nd season at the helm of the Huskers squad. The 2015 team features seven returning starters from last year, including the lone senior duo Katie Kraeutner and Jaylyn Odermann, while welcoming seven newcomers to the mix. Walker has guided the Huskers to a 290-133-27 overall record since the program’s debut in 1996, placing him among the top-20 winningest active coaches in NCAA Division I by victories. In 2013, Walker helped lead Nebraska to a pair of Big Ten titles after securing the regular season and conference tournament victories.
