Nebraska outside hitter Mikaela Foecke has been named the national Freshman of the Year by PrepVolleyball.com.
The West Point, Iowa native, who was also the most valuable player of the NCAA Championship, averaged 3.09 kills per set to help Nebraska to its fourth NCAA title in program history. She was the third freshman all-time to be named MVP of the finals.
Foecke was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team and earned honorable-mention All-America honors.
But those selections came before Foecke had big-time matches in Omaha with 19 kills and a .385 hitting percentage in the national championship sweep against Texas and 12 kills in the semifinal win against Kansas for a combined 4.43 kills per set average in the semifinal and final.
PVB also announced its all-America selections, with junior Kadie Rolfzen and libero Justine Wong-Orantes earning first-team honors. Kelly Hunter was a second-team selection, while Foecke earned third-team honors. Amber Rolfzen was honorable mention.
