Anton Stephenson Earns B1G Freshman of the Week

Nebraska gymnast, Anton Stephenson, earned B1G Freshman of the Week for his performance against Air Force on Jan. 23, becoming the first Husker ever to earn the honor.

"[This] is a huge honor," Stephenson said. "I would never have imagined being recognized by my conference in only the second week of my college career. I cannot thank the university enough for providing me with the opportunities to achieve this, along with the unending support from my coaches, teammates and family."

The Fishers, Ind., native set new personal-best scores on floor (14.70), pommel horse (14.35), still rings (14.15), vault (14.90), high bar (14.60) and in the all-around (86.00) at the meet against Air Force.

"We are so proud of Anton," head coach Chuck Chmelka said.  "He is a very determined and hardworking gymnast and we are very happy with his accomplishments so far."

As a team, Nebraska defeated Air Force by a score of 434.300 - 425.380.  The Huskers broke six school records against the Falcons, including four team records and two individual records.
