Arlington, Texas – The second-ranked Nebraska bowling team won all five of its traditional matches Saturday and sit in fourth place heading into the final day of competition at the Prairie View A&M Invitational at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas.
The Huskers (55-23) currently own a 205.4 average after totaling a pinfall of 4,909 on Saturday. No. 8 Stephen F. Austin took control of first place with an average of 210.3, followed by top-ranked Arkansas State (208.5) and No. 3 Vanderbilt (205.9)
Julia Bond led the Huskers with a sizzling 227.8 average, good for fourth overall. Texas-native Melanie Crawford finished 24th overall with a 196.6 average, while Gazmine Mason finished 25th with a 193.8 average. Bethany Hedley bowled the final four matches of the day and contributed a 210.3 average for the Big Red.
The weekend features 10 of the nation’s top 25 teams, including four of the top five teams in the latest NTCA Top 25 poll. Nebraska has won the Prairie View A&M Invitational each of the last three years and has finished in the top four every year since 2012.
The Huskers will face Texas Southern in a traditional match at 8:25 a.m. Sunday before beginning play in the first round of the best-of-seven Baker format bracket-play tournament to determine a champion. NU’s match against Texas Southern will be live streamed on Bowl.com.
