Kenosha, Wis. – The second-ranked Nebraska bowling team went 4-1 in five traditional matches on Saturday at the Warhawk Invitational at Sheridan Lanes in Kenosha, Wis. The Cornhuskers (77-28) are the seeded first heading into Sunday’s best-of-seven bracket-play tournament to determine a champion.
Julia Bond finished second overall with an average of 229.0, while Briana Zabierek finished third with an average of 225.2. Freshman Meghan Straub earned the first top-ten finish of her career, finishing sixth with an average of 213.2.
The Huskers dropped their first match of the day to hosts Wisconsin-Whitewater, but responded with wins over No. 8 Stephen F. Austin, No. 21 Tulane, No. 25 Elmhurst and No. 5 Central Missouri.
NU, which was in fifth place after Friday's Baker matches, currently sits with a pinfall of 10,293 for the weekend.
The Huskers will face Central Missouri in the opening round of Sunday’s tournament, with play set to begin at 8:30 a.m. The winner of that match will advance to the championship match, while the loser will face the winner of the Stephen F. Austin-McKendree match for a spot in the final.
