Huskers Begin Long Beach Trip in Hawaii

The Nebraska beach volleyball team enjoyed its first day of competition on Queen's Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii on Thursday with temperatures in the 80s and sun.

The 15th-ranked Huskers took on No. 2 USC in the afternoon, falling 4-1 to the defending beach national champion Trojans (7-2). The Husker pairs also played 25-minute exhibitions against Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade in the morning.

Olivia Boender and Annika Albrecht went 3-0 on the day playing in the No. 3 slot. Against USC's Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler, they defeated the Trojan duo 21-13, 15-21, 15-10. The other Husker teams fell in straight sets to the Trojans.

In the morning session against Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade, every Husker pair won the first set in each of its matches, and the Huskers led in 12 of the 13 second sets before time expired.

On Friday and Saturday, Nebraska (1-1) will compete in the Hawaii Invite, featuring both a pairs and team tournament against No. 20 Loyola Marymount, the Rainbow Wahine and USC at Queen's Beach. Action begins at Noon (CT).
