HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The No. 15 Nebraska volleyball team posted a pair of victories over California schools on their first of three straight days of matches in California on Wednesday.
Nebraska breezed past Irvine Valley College, 5-0, on Huntington Beach Pier in the first match. The Huskers then turned around to beat Concordia (Ca.) 4-1 to improve to 4-3 on the season.
Against Irvine Valley College, the Huskers got straight-set wins from their No. 2 pair, Justine Wong-Orantes/Amber Rolfzen (21-11, 21-9), No. 3 pair Annika Albrecht/Olivia Boender (21-6, 21-19) and No. 5 pair Brooke Smith/Tiani Reeves (21-14, 21-14).
Kadie Rolfzen/Kelly Hunter picked up a 21-19, 15-21, 15-7 win in the No. 1 spot, while Kenzie Maloney and Briana Holman also won the first and third sets, 21-15, 18-21, 15-7.
Against Concordia, Wong-Orantes and Amber Rolfzen (21-6, 21-17) and Albrecht and Boender (21-16, 21-7) again won in straight sets. Kadie Rolfzen and Hunter defeated Concordia's top pair, 21-7, 21-12. And Maloney and Holman earned a comeback win over Concordia's Tristan Self and Kyra Auten in the No. 4 slot, 20-22, 22-20, 15-5.
The only match the Huskers lost was at No. 5, as Sydney Townsend and Tiani Reeves fell to Katie Napier and Morgan Nunley, 14-21, 18-21.
Nebraska plays at No. 7 Long Beach State on Thursday at 3 p.m. (CT).
