Huskers Make Championship Visit to D.C.

In celebration of winning the 2015 NCAA Division I Volleyball National Championship, the Nebraska volleyball team traveled to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After arriving in D.C. on Tuesday evening, the Huskers attended a welcome reception by Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer at the U.S. Capitol Building. The Huskers also met Senator Ben Sasse and Representatives Adrian Smith and Jeff Fortenberry.

On Wednesday morning, the Huskers had breakfast at the Dirksen Senate Building and took a short tour of the White House and the U.S. Capitol Building.

"One thing that surprised me about the White House was that they didn't have formal names for many of their rooms,” said Amber Rolfzen. “There was a red room, blue room, green room, and everything in them was those colors. I didn't expect that."

The Huskers also walked around D.C. and stopped at some of the memorials.

“All of the memorials were really cool,” Rolfzen said. “I really enjoyed learning about World War II, and it was awesome to walk around that memorial. This was my first time to D.C. and I really enjoyed it. Seeing all the history from our country was very neat. It's definitely a place I would like to come back to again and experience with more time."

In the afternoon, the team met with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, an avid Husker fan, at the Supreme Court building. The Huskers are set to return home late Wednesday night to begin preparing for final exams, which begin next week.
