Washington, D.C. - The Nebraska bowling team was honored in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday and Wednesday for its 2015 National Collegiate Bowling Championship.
While in the nation's capital, the Huskers met with Nebraska Senators Deb Fischer and Ben Sasse as well as Nebraska Representative Adrian Smith at a dinner Tuesday night at the U.S. Capitol Building. On Wednesday, the team toured the White House and the Capitol, before meeting with Justice Clarence Thomas, an avid Husker fan, at the Supreme Court Building.
"Having the opportunity to visit D.C. meant a lot to the team," Nebraska sophomore Julia Bond said. "It was an experience that not many of us have seen before and a lot of us definitely want to come back. The recognition was amazing and we were grateful for the compliments and treatment we received. We definitely treasured this experience as a team."
Members of the 2015 national championship team include Bond, Kelly Belzeski, April Campbell, Melanie Crawford, Bethany Hedley, Lizabeth Kuhlkin, Gazmine Mason, Alexandra Mosquera, Andrea Ruiz, and Briana Zabierek. Kuhlkin was named the 2015 NTCA Collegiate Bowler of the Year, while Bond earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2015 NCAA Championship.
The team traveled with and had the same itinerary as the Nebraska volleyball team, which was honored for its 2015 NCAA Division I Volleyball National Championship.
