Huskers Add All-Big 12 Graduate Transfer Malloy

The Nebraska volleyball team has added Andie Malloy, a two-time All-Big 12 and honorable-mention all-region selection at Baylor, as a graduate transfer for the 2016 season.

Malloy, who earned her degree in marketing at Baylor over the weekend, will be a senior in 2016 and is eligible to compete immediately while pursuing a master of applied science degree at Nebraska.

The 6-2 outside hitter from Allen, Texas was an AVCA honorable-mention all-region selection in 2015 after leading Baylor with 3.05 kills per set and 33 service aces. She posted 10 double-doubles and helped the Bears to their first winning record (17-13) in three years while earning a second straight spot on the All-Big 12 First Team.

"I'm so excited to be here and am excited for this opportunity to be a part of this program," Malloy said. "The coaches are incredible, the fan base is unreal, and I can't wait to get started. I want to win a national championship, and the people and the girls were so welcoming. I could definitely see myself easily fitting in with them. It's a perfect fit. The graduate program is exactly what I need to help me get to where I want to go after college. All of it seemed to fall into place at the right time. In the short time I was on my visit, I knew this is where I wanted to be."

As a junior in 2014, Malloy ranked second in the Big 12 in kills per set (3.89) and double-doubles (17) while earning first-team All-Big 12 honors. Malloy earned AVCA All-Southwest Region honorable mention and was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection.

Malloy also has extensive experience with the U.S. Collegiate National Team, as she competed at the 2015 World University Games in South Korea last July, along with current Husker Briana Holman. She toured China with the U.S. Collegiate National Team in June 2014 as well. Malloy began her collegiate career at Iowa State in 2012, where she averaged 1.97 kills per set and 1.65 digs per set while playing in 25 matches. She sat out the 2013 season after transferring to Baylor.

"Andie has had an interesting journey to get to Nebraska," head coach John Cook said. "She also has played on various USA teams with Kadie and Amber Rolfzen and Briana Holman. Andie is a well-rounded six-rotation player who has a lot of experience, and on her visit she was a natural fit for Nebraska and with our team. She will be very motivated as she has only one year of eligibility, and she will be able to start her master's program this summer."

Malloy, whose birth name is Alexandra Lindsay Malloy but prefers Andie, played four seasons of varsity volleyball at Lovejoy High School in Lucas, Texas. She split time at setter and right side all four seasons and helped the Leopards to a combined 162-16 record, four District 13-3A championships and four 3A state titles. She was named the Texas 3A state MVP her sophomore season in 2009 and was a 3A state all-tournament team selection in three of her four seasons. Malloy was named all-state three times and earned spots on several state and national recruiting lists beginning her junior season. She was one of ESPN's Top 25 Volleyball Players in the Class of 2012 and was an AVCA Under Amour All-America watch-list selection.
