The Nebraska men's gymnastics team ranked No. 2 nationally in home attendance during the 2016 season, both in single-meet average and total season attendance.
"Our attendance last season was amazing,” head coach Chuck Chmelka said. “The fans are incredible and are such an important part of our success as a program. We are very thankful for the support we receive from our fans every day."
Nebraska averaged 1,830 fans per home meet in 2016 and was only one of three teams to average more than 1,000 fans at each home meet throughout the season.
The Huskers drew more than 3,000 fans over the course of the season, despite only having two home meets, while all other teams in the rankings had at least three home meets.
Ohio State was the only team to top the Huskers in the rankings. The Buckeyes, who hosted both the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Championships averaged 1,871 fans per home meet, with a total of 11,227 over the course of the season, including the championships. Ohio State’s regular season average fell just below the Huskers (1,546).
NU finished the 2016 season with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships, its best finish since 1999. Individually, Ethan Lottman, Sam Chamberlain, Austin Epperson and Anton Stephenson each earned All-America honors. It was the first time since 1998 that four different Huskers walked away with an All-America award.
"We truly have the best fans in the nation and these numbers prove it," Chmelka said. "Men's gymnastics is an important tradition at Nebraska, one that is very much alive and well."
