Inglewood, Calif. – Former Husker and World bronze medalist James Green (70 kg) went 4-0 at the Freestyle World Cup over the weekend to help the United States to a fourth-place team finish.
Green, a Willingboro, N.J., native, produced three technical falls and outscored his opponents 35-2 during the two-day tournament at The Forum. He opened the World Cup with a 10-0 victory over India’s Vinod Kumar before adding a 10-0 win over Azerbaijan’s Gadzhimurad Omarov on Saturday.
On Sunday, Green posted a 5-2 decision against Iran’s Moustafa Hosseinkhani before winning by a 10-0 margin against Georgia’s David Tlashadze in the third-place match.
The U.S. went 2-0 on the first day, defeating India, 7-1, before shutting out Azerbaijan, 8-0. On Sunday, the Americans tied Iran, 4-4, but fell on criteria, 17-15, en route to a spot in the third-place match. The U.S. tied Georgia in the third-place match, but once against fell on criteria, 17-16.
Green was one of three Americans to post perfect 4-0 records at the World Cup and take home individual gold. Green, a four-time All-American at Nebraska, also earned a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships.
