Green Named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Former Husker and World bronze medalist James Green earned USA Wrestling Athlete-of-the-Week honors on Tuesday following his dominant performance at the Freestyle World Cup over the weekend.

Wrestling at 70 kg, Green posted a perfect 4-0 record to help the United States to a fourth-place team finish at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The Willingboro, N.J., native outscored his opponents 35-2 with three of his wins by technical fall.

Green opened the World Cup on Saturday with a 10-0 triumph over 2016 Asian silver medalist Vinod Kumar (India) before dismantling World No. 9 Gadzhimurad Omarov (Azerbaijan) by the same score. On Sunday, Green defeated World No. 15 Moustafa Hosseinkhani (Iran), 5-2, before a 10-0 win over World No. 6 David Tlashadze (Georgia).

Green, a four-time All-American at Nebraska, also earned a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships.
