Lincoln – Eight members of the Nebraska women’s bowling team were named academic All-NTCA, the National Tenpin Coaches Association announced Friday. In addition, the Huskers finished the 2015-16 academic year with a team grade point average of 3.55, good for fifth overall among NCAA bowling programs.
To be named academic All-NTCA, a student-athlete must have maintained a 3.4 cumulative GPA for the 2015-2016 school year. 163 student-athletes from 32 schools nationwide were named to the team this season.
Representing Nebraska on the 2015-16 academic All-NTCA team include: Kelly Belzeski (Schererville, Ind.; Social Science Education), Julia Bond (Aurora, Ill.; Biological Sciences), Melanie Crawford (Plano, Texas; Management), Bethany Hedley (Watford, England; Advertising & Public Relations/Journalism), Julie Lohman (Chicago, Ill.; Elementary Education), Allison Morris (Ann Arbor, Mich.; Finance), Meghan Straub (Lincoln, Neb.; English/Journalism) and Briana Zabierek (Lockport, Ill.; Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science).
“I’m so proud of the women on the team,” Nebraska academic counselor Sheri Hastings said. “They are a great group of young women that work very hard to achieve the success that they have in the classroom.”
LIU-Brooklyn finished the academic year with the top GPA for the second year in a row, earning a 3.71 in 2015-16. Felician (3.68) was second, followed by Sam Houston State (3.62) and Fairleigh Dickinson (3.56).
Nebraska was one of just eight bowling programs to have a team GPA above 3.5 and one of just 17 to have a team GPA of 3.2 or above. To be considered for team recognition, programs must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 for the 2015-2016 school year.
