Huskers Top No. 16 BYU for 300th All-Time Win

Provo, Utah – The Nebraska soccer team (2-0-0) knocked off 16th-ranked BYU, 1-0, at South Field on Monday night to earn its 300th win in program history. Head Coach John Walker achieved the same milestone, having been at the helm of the program since its inception in 1994.

The Huskers also snapped the nation’s longest home win streak. The Cougars, who returned all 11 starters this season, entered the game with 18 consecutive victories at South Field before the Big Red shut them out. BYU qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season and is picked to finish first in the West Coast Conference this season.

Freshman goalkeeper Aubrei Corder, making her second career start, earned six saves during NU’s first road game of the 2016 campaign. The BYU offense outshot Nebraska, 16-7, but the Barboursville, W.Va., native didn’t allow anything into the net in 90 minutes of action.

Junior Haley Hanson scored the lone goal of the match with her diving header in the 56th minute. It marked the fourth goal of her Husker career and her first of the season. Freshman Meg Brandt, making her second career start, assisted the Hanson goal.

The Huskers head West next weekend to face Oregon and Oregon State. Nebraska battles the Ducks on Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CT) before squaring off against the Beavers on Sunday at 2 p.m. (CT). Both games will be televised by Pac-12 TV.
