The NET Sports documentary “Nebraska Volleyball Championship: Destination Omaha,” premieres at 8 p.m. CT, Tuesday, Aug. 30 on NET. The 30-minute television program celebrates the Husker volleyball team’s determination to get to Omaha to win their fourth national title.
NET Sports was there to capture all of the electric moments as the team battled their former Big 12 Conference rival Texas Longhorns. In front of a NCAA record-setting crowd of 17,561 fans at Omaha’s CenturyLink Center, Nebraska swept Texas.
But last season’s outcome was far from sure. Stories of the team’s five-month rollercoaster year and the adjustments made to end their season with a 16-game winning streak to compete for the 2015 Division I NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship are told in this special. Interviews with players and coaches tell the behind-the-scenes drama and commitment of walk-on-turned-captain Alicia Ostrander of Gordon, Papillion teammates Kelly Hunter, Kadie Rolfzen and Amber Rolfzen, who played together since eighth grade, as well as predictions and newfound leadership from freshmen players including Mikaela Foecke, who made 19 kills to become the Final Four’s most outstanding player.
With a squad of experienced, returning players, the Nebraska Volleyball team has high hopes to make history with back-to-back national titles. Expectations for their 2016 performance, as well as a locker room dance with Head Coach John Cook, are also featured.
