Orlando, Fla. – The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team finished fifth overall at the Wildcat Invitational after defeating No. 16 Monmouth in the fifth-place best-of-seven Baker format match Sunday at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
The Huskers finished the weekend with a 6-6 record. No. 6 Sam Houston State defeated third-ranked Arkansas State to win the tournament championship.
The Cornhuskers began Sunday's action as the fourth seed, but dropped their first two matches of the day to second-ranked Stephen F. Austin and No. 11 Maryland-Eastern Shore, both by 4-2 decisions.
The Huskers moved on to play Monmouth for fifth place, and after dropping the first two games, ended the match on fire by winning the final four games for the match victory.
Julia Bond was named to the all-tournament team after finishing fifth overall with an average of 220.2 in Saturday’s traditional matches.
Nebraska will return to action at the KAT Klash the weekend of Nov. 4-6 in Houston, Texas. The Huskers have won the past two editions of the Klash, which is hosted by 2014 NCAA champion Sam Houston State.
