Three Huskers Honored with B1G Weekly Awards

Three members of the top-ranked Nebraska volleyball team were honored with weekly awards from the Big Ten Conference on Monday.

Middle blocker Amber Rolfzen was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, while libero Justine Wong-Orantes was the Defensive Player of the Week and Kelly Hunter was the Setter of the Week.

The trio helped the Huskers to key wins over No. 4 Wisconsin and No. 3 Minnesota over the weekend to put NU in a tie for first in the Big Ten standings with Penn State.

Rolfzen posted 4.00 kills per set on .560 hitting with 1.12 blocks per set to lead the Huskers. She matched her career high in both matches with 16 kills in each. The Papillion-La Vista South product hit .609 against Wisconsin with three blocks and then added six blocks against Minnesota with a .519 hitting percentage. This marks the second career selection as Big Ten Player of the Week for Rolfzen and comes one week after her twin sister Kadie was named Big Ten Player of the Week.

Wong-Orantes set a Nebraska school record with a career-high 35 digs against Minnesota, and for the weekend she averaged 6.25 digs per set. The reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year earns her third career weekly honor and first this season.

Hunter, the Huskers' junior captain, averaged 13.25 assists per set with 1.12 digs per set to pick up her third setter award this season and the fifth of her career. She posted a career-high 65 assists in the win against Minnesota, the fourth-highest Nebraska total in the rally scoring era.
