Lincoln, Neb. – Nebraska Head Coach Mark Manning announced the addition of three wrestlers on Wednesday who will join the Huskers next season.
“The opportunity to have Mikey, Jason and Tucker join the Nebraska wrestling family is a great testament to the culture and atmosphere around our program,” Manning said. “We’re super excited about each of their futures as well as the talent, toughness and work ethic they add to Nebraska wrestling. Mikey, Jason and Tucker are very accomplished not only in their own state, but nationally as well. These three young men have the ingredients to help Nebraska continue to be special.”
Jason Renteria – Oak Park, Ill. (Oak Park River Forest)
Jason Renteria captured the 2016 IHSA state title at 120 pounds after a pair of runner-up finishes at state. Renteria finished second at state at 113 pounds in 2015, and took second at 106 pounds in 2014. He is ranked sixth nationally at 132 pounds by InterMat.
Tucker Sjomeling – Delano, Minn. (Delano)
Tucker Sjomeling is a two-time state champion from Delano High School in Minnesota. Sjomeling won the MSHSL state crown at 126 pounds in 2016 and captured the 106-pound title as a freshman. He took third at 113 pounds as a sophomore. Sjomeling finished second at 126 pounds at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals.
Mikey Labriola – Bethlehem, Pa. (Bethlehem Catholic)
Mikey Labriola won the 2016 Pennsylvania state title, and owns third- and seventh-place finishes as well. He finished runner-up at the Beast of the East and took third at the Super 32. Labriola is ranked second nationally at 170 pounds by InterMat.
