Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska wrestling team opened its 2016-17 campaign with the annual Intrasquad, held in conjunction with the Fall Coaches Clinic, on Friday at the Devaney Center. The event gave fans a chance to see the entire team work out before the start of tournament and dual competition.
The Huskers drilled, scrapped and practiced one-on-one drills during the 75-minute workout. Afterwards, Head Coach Mark Manning introduced the team, which signed autographs.
Senior All-American Eric Montoya (133) will compete in the NWCA All-Star Classic on Saturday at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Montoya, the No. 4-ranked wrestler by InterMat, will face No. 2 Zane Richards (Illinois) in the event, which begins at 7 p.m. (CT).
The majority of the Huskers will wrestle in the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. (CT) at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D. The event will be streamed live on Flowrestling.org (subscription required) and live results/brackets will be available on Trackwrestling.com.
