Huskers Close Big Ten Individual Championships

Madison, Wis. - Dylan Bednarczyk picked up three singles victories to lead the Nebraska men's tennis team at the Big Ten Individual Championships over the weekend.

Bednarczyk, a freshman from Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada, rallied from an opening-round loss to Penn State's Matt Galush (3-6, 6-7 [4-7]) to run off a trio of straight-set wins. Bednarczyk posted victories over Wisconsin's Alan Sweet (6-3, 6-2), Penn State's David Kohan (6-0, 7-5) and Iowa's Nils Hallestand (6-2, 6-4). 

Sophomore Toby Boyer notched Nebraska's lone win in main bracket singles play, knocking off Wisconsin's Daniel Soyfer (6-1, 5-7, 6-2), before falling to UW's Josef Dodridge (3-6, 5-7) in the second round.

Chris Dean, a freshman from Papillion, Neb., added a pair of consolation victories for the Huskers in singles competition, defeating Wisconsin's Darius Mackenzie (6-4, 6-3) and Penn State's Christian Lutschauni (2-6, 6-4, 13-11). Dean opened with a main bracket loss to Ohio State's Hunter Tubert (3-6, 4-6) and also dropped a match to Penn State's Henry Gordon (3-6, 6-7 [3-7]).

Micah Klousia, a sophomore from Springfield, Mo., contributed Nebraska's final singles victory of the tournament with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Iowa's Jason Kent. Klousia also paired with freshman David Samardzija for Nebraska's lone doubles victory of the weekend with a 7-6 (7-3) win over Northwestern's Michael Lorenzini and Dominik Stary.

The Huskers open the 2017 spring season by playing host to Omaha on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln.
