Ex-Husker Green Goes 2-1 at World Championships

Budapest, Hungary – Former Husker James Green (70 kg/154 pounds) went 2-1 in the Men’s Freestyle competition at the Non-Olympic Weight World Championships on Sunday to finish seventh individually.

Green, a four-time All-American at Nebraska, opened with two consecutive wins before falling to Uzbekistan’s Rashid Kurbanov in the quarterfinals by criteria, 3-3. Green did not qualify for repechage. Green’s wins came against Azerbaijan’s Gitnomagomedov Gadzhiyev in the opening round (12-1) and Georgia’s Davit Tlashadze in the second round (4-1).

Green qualified for the event on Nov. 11 when he defeated Jordan Oliver (2-1, 4-3) in the U.S. Men’s Freestyle World Team Trials in New York, N.Y. Green previously wrestled at the World Championships in 2015, taking home a bronze medal in Las Vegas, Nev.
