Nebraska Board of Regents Approves Gymnastics Training Facility

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved a proposal to build a new gymnastics training facility on Friday at the Committee Presentations and Board of Regents Meeting.

The current plan calls for construction of the facility that will be used by Nebraska’s men’s and women’s programs as an addition to the northwest side of the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The facility will include training stations, coaches’ offices and locker rooms for both teams.

“We’re so excited about what this is going to do for our program,” Nebraska women’s gymnastics head coach Dan Kendig said. “It will help in every area of our program. It will help our team perform better, it will help in recruiting and it will be convenient to be at the Devaney Center. It’s like Christmas morning.”

“It’s a dream come true,” Nebraska men’s gymnastics head coach Chuck Chmelka said. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to train our athletes safer and better. We’re excited to have more stations for learning more difficult skills and just an overall better place to train and recruit.”

More details on the project, including a timeline of completion and renderings will be released at a later date.
