The Nebraska women’s tennis team heads to the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., this weekend to compete in its second fall invitational. The University of Minnesota will be hosting the tournament at its Baseline Tennis Center.
The tournament kicks off for the Huskers on Friday, Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. Nebraska will take 10 members of its 12-person roster to ensure vigor and fresh energy on the team.
The Gopher Invitational will be bringing in approximately 80 players from 10 different teams, including the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Marquette, North Carolina State, Drake, North Dakota, South Dakota, Northern Iowa, Iowa State and South Dakota State.
Friday will start off with two rounds of doubles matches, followed by two rounds of singles matches throughout the day. Play on Saturday and Sunday will also start at 8 a.m., featuring two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles. In the case of inclement weather, one doubles round will be played each day instead of two, and the singles rounds will stay the same.
Assistant Head Coach German Dalmagro said the team is eager to get back on the courts and gain more experience against skilled competition.
“Minnesota will be another great opportunity to get better and keep working on little things,” Dalmagro said. “The weather will be cooler and lower altitude, so I think it will suit us better and I’m looking forward to the next challenge.”
Tennis action will continue through Sunday. Daily recaps and results will be available on Huskers.com following the completion of play each day.
