Huskers Go 6-1 in Qualifying Play

Milwuakee -- Four Nebraska men's tennis players were at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Thursday for their first competition of the fall season.

In the qualifying rounds, junior Toby Boyer won his first match defeating Mark Wassener of DePaul 6-2, 6-2 and then went on to win his final qualifying round against Greg Anderson of Marquette 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Micah Klousia won his first qualifying match against Jac Newis of IUPUI 6-4, 6-1 and then went on to defeat Alex Galoustian of DePaul 5-7, 6-1 ,6-1. 

In doubles play sophomore Dylan Bednarczyk and senior Linus Erhart came back from six match points to defeat MIchigan State's Jasper Koenen and Brett Forman 9-8 (4) and then went on to beat Alex Ribeiro of Virginia Tech and Pablo Landa of Illinois 8-5.

"Overall today was a good day," Assistant Coach Fungai Tongoona said. "Our goal was to come up here and bounce back from last year with the four guys we brought. They have been really professional and have had nothing but Intense practices, and it shown with their high level of play. Doubles play with Linus and Dylan was good. They came back from six match points down against a tough Michigan State duo and are now in the quarter finals. Micah and Toby unfortunately lost to a good Old Dominion team. Overall I would say that going 6-1 on the first day of any tournament is good, and hopefully we can do the same tomorrow."
