Huskers Bash Bruins, 16-1

Lincoln, Neb, --- The Nebraska softball team dominated the Bellevue Bruins at Bowlin Stadium on Thursday night, 16-1. The Huskers had 15 hits on the night. Tristen Edwards had two, including a grand slam. Taylor Otte, Alyvia Simmons, Madi Unzicker, Bree Boruff and Bri Cassidy also had multiple hits on the night. The Husker pitching staff didn't give up a hit until the fifth inning and only allowed two all game.

The Huskers got right to work in the bottom of the first inning, scoring 11 runs. The first three batters singled to load the bases for Edwards. Edwards was hit by the pitch to bring in the first run. Jablonski brought in a run with a sac fly to center field and Madi Unzicker doubled to score another run. Laura Barrow was walked which loaded the bases for Cassidy. Cassidy singled to center field to score an additional run. Urness singled to score another run and Rylie Unzicker reach first base on a error to load the bases. Another hit from Bree Boruff scored two more runs and Simmons walked to load the bases for Edwards. Edwards smacked the ball over the fence for a grand slam. 

The Husker offense continued to dominate in the second inning, scoring five runs. Cassidy got things started with a double down the left field line. Yocom pinch ran for Cassidy and advanced to third on a fly out. She scored after Taylor Otte singled to left field. Metzler reached first on a fielder's choice then score after Simmons doubled. The Huskers then loaded the bases again and Madi Unzicker singled and brought in three runs. 

Neither team scored again until the fifth inning, when Regan Mergele walked two batters and gave up a hit to give Bellevue its first score of the night. Mergele got out of the inning without allowing another run or another hit. 

Bellevue's only other hit came in the sixth inning when Sydney McLeod gave up a single.

Kaylan Jablonski pitched two innings and didn't give up a hit or a run. McLeod also pitched two innings, while Olivia Ferrell, Caitlin Bartsch and Mergele each pitched one inning. 

Nebraska concludes its fall season on Oct. 26 when the Huskers host Butler Community College at 4 p.m. The game is scheduled to last 10 innings. Admission is free.
