Huskers Dominate at SFA Stormin' Ladyjack Invitational

Houston, Texas- The top ranked Nebraska bowling team remained undefeated at the Stormin’ Ladyjack Invitational for a record of 5-0 in five traditional matches Saturday, defeating five ranked teams in the process.

Through two days of competition, the Huskers have a record of 10-0 and sit in second place overall with a total pinfall of 10,424. Second-ranked McKendree is first with a total pinfall of 10,555.

Two Huskers finished in the top five in the individual standings, led by senior Kelly Belzeski, who finished second overall with an average of 229.2. Julia Bond placed third with an average 219.2. Junior Meghan Straub (seventh) and sophomore Raquel Orozco (10th) also landed in the top-10 with their averages of 211.6 and 209.6, respectively.

The Huskers started off the day with a victory over No. 4 Vanderbilt by a score of980-857. NU then continued on to best No. 8 Maryland Eastern Shore, 1,126-989, and No. 13 UAB, 1,110-964.

The Big Red closed the day with two strong victories over McKendree (1,085-1,027) No. 22 Maryville (1,073-893).

The Huskers will face McKendree in the opening round of the best-of-seven Baker format championship tournament on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. (CT). The winner of the match will go on to play in the championship final and the loser will face the winner of the Stephen F. Austin-Arkansas State match for a spot in the final.
