The Nebraska beach volleyball team wrapped up its first road trip of the 2018 season on Sunday. The Huskers fell to No. 1 USC, 5-0, before dropping a hard-fought 3-2 match to No. 19 Arizona State at the PERA Club in Tempe, Arizona.
The Huskers moved to 1-3 on the season, while USC improved to 3-0 and Arizona State improved to 1-1. Against the Trojans, Allie Havers and Jasmine Schmidt were NU's most competitive pair, dropping the first set of their match 27-25 before falling 21-18 in the second set.
In the second match of the day against the Sun Devils, Lauren Stivrins and Kelly Hunter teamed up for a 21-14, 21-19 win over Arizona State's No. 1 pair, Kwyn Johnson and Mia Rivera. The Husker duo of Kenzie Maloney and Annika Albrecht defeated Kara Woodard and Sydney Palmer in the No. 2 spot, 21-17, 21-16. But the Sun Devils won the other three matchups to claim the 3-2 win.
Nebraska will now host a pair of beach matches at the Hawks Championship Center. On Friday, March 2, NU will host Missouri State at 2 p.m. The following week on Thursday, March 8, Nebraska will go up against Missouri Baptist at 2 p.m. Both matches will be closed to the public because of space limitations.
