Huskers Sweep Central Missouri Invitational

 Fulton, Mo. - The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team continued their undefeated streak over the weekend in dominating fashion at the Central Missouri Women’s Invitational. The Huskers finished 10-0 with a total pinfall of 10,188 to win the tournament title.

Nebraska went 5-0 in five traditional matches Sunday, and has now won its last 36 matches in head-to-head action, dating back to the Crusader Classic earlier this month.

The Huskers dominated the individual standings, taking each of the top five spots. Raquel Orozco finished in first with her average of 207.6. Allison Morris earned second place with an average of 205.8. Julia Bond (203.6), Meghan Straub (200.4) and Kelly Belzeski  (194.4) rounded out the top-five.

The Huskers started off the day with a strong win over No. 15 Central Missouri by a score of 1,022-992.

Nebraska then found consecutive victories over Columbia (1,111-719) and Drury (999-840).

NU took down Elmhurst (915-861) Lincoln (Mo.) (1,012-787) to finish out the day.

Nebraska will host the annual Big Red Invitational next Friday through Sunday at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln. The tournament will feature 10 teams, including each of the top three teams in the country and six ranked teams overall. The list of teams competing includes the Huskers, No. 2 McKendree, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 15 Central Missouri, No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 22 Maryville, No. 25 Valparaiso, Prairie View A&M (RV), Drury, and Lincoln (Mo.). Friday’s action starts at 1:20 p.m., with four sets of five-game Baker matches, followed by five team games on Saturday at 8:25 a.m. and a two-round best-of-seven Baker format championship tournament on Sunday at 8:55 a.m. Promotional activities for Friday’s action include a free lunch and Husker gear for the first 100 fans, a student drawing to win an official Husker bowling ball, a Weber Grill, and more prizes. Admission to the tournament is free all weekend.
