Huskers Begin Play at Outrigger Invitational

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Nebraska beach volleyball team began play at the Outrigger Resorts Hawaii Invitational on Queen's Beach with three matches on Saturday. 

The Huskers fell to No. 5 Hawaii, 5-0, No. 12 Grand Canyon, 3-2, and No. 3 USC, 5-0. NU dropped to 3-7 on the season and will play three more matches tomorrow against the same teams: USC at 1:30 p.m., Grand Canyon at 4 p.m., and Hawaii at 6:30 p.m. 

NU's pairs that earned a victory on the day were the Nos. 1 and 2 pairs against Grand Canyon. Kenzie Maloney and Annika Albrecht swept Katie Pyles and Jessica Clark 21-19, 21-18 to get the Huskers on the board. Then at the No. 1 spot, Lauren Stivrins and Kelly Hunter beat Molly Turner and Kelli Iverson in a thriller, 21-19, 11-21, 15-13. 

Stivrins and Hunter took USC's No. 2 pair, Terese Cannon and Sammy Slater, to three sets before falling 21-16, 20-22, 11-15.
