Huskers Represented at World Team Trials

Three Nebraska wrestling student-athletes are in the field for the 2018 UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials this Friday and Saturday at the Rochester Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minn.

Incoming freshman Peyton Robb will compete at 70 kg, while redshirt freshman Mikey Labriola and sophomore Beau Breske will both compete in the 79 kg bracket. Robb earned qualification as the third-place finisher at 152 pounds at the 2017 Junior Nationals, while Labriola and Breske earned spots based on their finishes at 2018 Junior Nationals, where Labriola took second and Breske placed third.

All three are entered in the challenge tournament at their respective weight classes to earn a spot in the best-of-three finals series. Winners of the best-of-three finals series will qualify for the U.S. team at the 2018 UWW Junior World Championships in Trnava, Slovakia in September.

Four other wrestlers with Husker ties are also wrestling this weekend at the 2018 UWW Senior Freestyle World Team Trials Challenge Tournament, set for Saturday and Sunday in Rochester.

Husker alum and current NU volunteer assistant coach Tim Lambert is in the field at 57 kg as the silver medalist at the 2017 Dave Schultz Memorial. Three-time All-American TJ Dudley will wrestle at 86 kg, earning qualification based on his fourth-place finish at the 2018 U.S. Open. NU alum and current Purdue volunteer assistant coach Jake Sueflohn is in the field at 74 kg after taking third at this year's U.S. Open.

In addition, Dom Bradley, who lives and trains in Lincoln as an athlete at the Nebraska Wrestling Training Center, will wrestle at 125 kg, earning qualification based on his championship at the 2017 Dave Schultz Memorial.

All four senior wrestlers with Husker ties are entered in the challenge tournament at their respective weight classes and will battle to earn a spot in the best-of-three finals series.

The winners in Rochester qualify for one of the three Final X events in June, which sets the 2018 U.S. World Team in men’s and women’s freestyle that will compete in Budapest, Hungary in October.

The Bob Devaney Sports Center will host one of the Final X events on June 9, which will feature action at four men's freestyle weight classes and three women's freestyle weight classes. Former Husker greats Jordan Burroughs (74 kg) and James Green (70 kg) have accepted bids for Final X Lincoln, while the event will also feature World and Olympic Champion Kyle Snyder (Men's 97 kg), World Silver Medalist Thomas Gilman (Men's 57 kg), World Silver Medalist Alli Ragan (Women's 59 kg) and World Bronze Medalist Becka Leathers (Women's 55 kg).
