Lima, Peru - Former Husker great James Green was dominant in four wins at 70 kg, as he captured his second straight gold medal in men's freestyle at the 2018 Pan-American Championships.
Green was one of five American champions, as Team USA won the team title with 230 points, 100 points clear of second-place Cuba. Green defeated Hernan Guzman of Colombia in the championship match by a 10-0 technical fall.
The World silver medalist began the day with a victory over Anthony Montero of Venezuela by a 4-1 decision, before winning his next three matches before the full six minutes were up. He defeated Guzman by an 11-1 technical fall to take first place in Pool A and advance to the placement rounds. In the semifinal match, he pinned Marcos Pereira de Oliveira of Brazil in just 38 seconds to advance to the championship match.
Green's gold medal marks the fifth won by a former Husker at the Pan-American Championships. He successfully defended his gold medal won last year, while Jordan Burroughs won in 2011 and 2015 and Ryan Tobin won gold in 1996.
