Two Huskers Competing at USA Championships

The Nebraska men’s gymnastics program will be represented at the USA Gymnastics Championships in Boston this weekend, Aug. 16-19.

Senior Anton Stephenson and former Husker Kyle King will be representing NU in the two-day competition. Stephenson is a two time All-American and the 2017 Big Ten vault champion. King was a 2017 All-American and a two-time Big Ten Vault Bronze Medalist.

“It’s great to have two Huskers competing against America’s top male gymnasts,” Head Coach Chuck Chmelka said. “The competition will be tough, challenging and fun!”

Stephenson is coming off an impressive junior season. He tied for second on vault at the 2018 NCAA Championships, helping the Huskers to fifth-place finish. Stephenson is looking to compete in the all-around at the USA Championships.

“It is an honor to be competing with some of the top athletes in the country,” Stephenson said. “This is an opportunity for us to represent our university at the elite level, and I couldn’t be happier to do it alongside such a great teammate.”

King consistently competed in every event for the Huskers and was a leading force for the Huskers in 2018. King tied for 10th on vault at the 2018 NCAA Championships, ending his college career on a high note. King is planning on competing on five events (all except still rings) at the USA Championships.

“It is so great to be competing against so many great gymnasts and alongside such a great teammate and friend. I’m grateful to represent my school and be able to compete at a high level one last time and thankful for all of the coaches getting me to this level,” King said.

Stephenson and King are set to compete on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. CT and on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. CT.
