Burroughs and Green to Hold Open Workout Friday

Lincoln, Neb. - Former Huskers and current U.S. National Team wrestlers Jordan Burroughs and James Green are on the final legs of their training before heading overseas to compete at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships. The competition will take place Oct. 20-28 and Budapest, Hungary will host the event.   To send them off before they head to Europe, Burroughs and Green will host an open workout at the Hendricks Training Center at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5. At the conclusion of their workout, attendees are invited to attend a send-off party for the two Husker greats at The Mill on Innovation Campus. Both events are free for attendees.   A native of Sicklerville, NJ., Burroughs posted a 128-20 career record at Nebraska and captured two national championships. He won the 2009 national title at 157 pounds and the 2011 title at 165 pounds. The former three-time Big 12 champion will be vying to become the second American wrestler to win six combined World and Olympic titles (World titles in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017; Olympic title in 2012). With a victory in Budapest, he will become the first American to win five world titles. Competition for Burroughs (74kg) begins Oct. 20 and goes through Oct. 21.   James Green, a native of Willingboro, N.J., competes Monday, Oct. 22 – Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 70 kg. Green, who posted a 129-22 career record from 2011-15, will be vying for his first career world title. A four-time All-American and NCAA Championships qualifier, he currently sits in fifth place all-time in career wins at NU. A two-time world medalist, Green defeated former training partner Jason Chamberlain 2-0 and 2-1 to make the world championship team.   Both wrestlers live in Lincoln and train with Head Coach Mark Manning and his coaching staff.   All the results for the 2018 World Wrestling Championships matches can be found on trackwrestling.com.
