Game Notes
Sophomore Olivia Ferrell recorded a career-high nine strikeouts against Lamar, besting her previous personal high of six.  Bri Cassidy went 2-for-3 against Lamar, recording her seventh and eighth hits of the season. She already has more hits in 2019 than she did all of 2018.

Houston, Texas. - The Nebraska softball team defeated Lamar in its first of two games on Saturday, 6-4. The Huskers improved to 2-1 on the season, while Lamar dropped to 1-3. 

Olivia Ferrell (1-1) was impressive in the circle and earned her first win of the season. She pitched 6.0 innings and gave up four runs. She recorded a career-best nine strikeouts and finished the game without giving up a walk. Regan Mergele earned the save, pitching 1.0 inning and recording two strikeouts.

Julia Voluntad (0-2) pitched 4.1 innings. She gave up four earned runs, had five walks and five strikeouts. 

The Huskers had seven hits on offense and were led by Bri Casssidy. The senior went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Bree Boruff also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Alyvia Simmons, Rylie Unzicker and Lexey Kneib also had one hit against the Cardinals.  

Nebraska grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first. Simmons drew a leadoff walk and stole second to get in scoring position. Edwards hit a hard hit ball that was bobbled by the second baseman, allowing Simmons to score on the error. 

Lamar tied it in the second at 1-1. A leadoff double set up the runner. She moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a fielder's choice. 

The Huskers took back the lead in the third. Simmons got things started with a solo home run to lead off the third inning. Rylie Unzicker doubled and moved to third on a groundout. She scored when the catcher overthrew third base as Lamar was trying to catch Rylie Unzicker stealing. Wallace and Kneib both reached on errors, putting runners on the corners. Kneib stole second and Cassidy drew a walk to load the bases. 

In the fourth, Lamar hit a two-out home run to cut the lead to 3-2. 

In the fifth, Nebraska scored three runs to extend its lead. Kneib hit a one-out double. Anni Raley pinch ran for her and scored after Cassidy hit another double. Carson Fischer pinch ran for Cassidy and Madi Unzicker drew a walk to put two runners on with one out. Boruff singled to load the bases and force a Lamar pitching change. With the top of the order up, Simmons grounded out to score Fischer. Rylie Unzicker drew a walk to load the bases for Edwards. Edwards hit a ball in the infield, but a mental mistake allowed all of the runners to advance one base and gave the Huskers a 6-2 lead after five innings.

In the top of the sixth, the Cardinals scored two runs on three hits to cut the Husker lead to 6-4.
