Game Notes

Madi Unzicker drew one walk, extending her on-base streak to 17 games.

Courtney Wallace pitched a career-long 6.0 innings against the Shockers.

Nebraska was no-hit for the first time since March 9, 2012.

Wichita State, Kan. - The Nebraska softball team (10-8) fell to Wichita State (16-5) on Sunday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader. With the win, the Shockers clinch the series after winning game one on Saturday. Although NU scored two runs, the Huskers didn't record a hit for the first time since March 9, 2012 (Oklahoma State).

Nebraska got its only base runners with four walks. Alyvia Simmons drew two, while Madi and Rylie Unzicker each drew one. Madi Unzicker extended her on-base streak to 17 games with the walk. Simmons and Rylie Unzicker scored Nebraska's two runs.

Courtney Wallace recorded her first loss of the season. She dropped to 2-1 on the season, pitching a career-long 6.0 innings and giving up six runs - three unearned - on nine hits. She also had two strikeouts.

Erin McDonald (4-1) didn't start, but pitched 7.0 innings of relief in the win. She entered the game in the first inning and retired 17 straight batters before allowing a walk in the sixth. She gave up no hits, no runs and recorded two strikeouts. McDonald and starter Caitlin Bingham combined for WSU's first no-hitter with two pitchers for the first time since 2003. .

Similar to yesterday, Nebraska jumped to a quick lead in the top of the first and forced a quick Shocker pitching change. Rylie Unzicker and Simmons drew two walks to put two runners on. With Edwards up, WSU got behind in the count and the Shockers quickly switched pitchers. A double steal put both runners in scoring position. Edwards hit a sac fly to score Unzicker and Owen followed suit to score Simmons and give the Huskers a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Shockers tied the game 2-2 off two hits and a walk. The Huskers also had one error. Wallace got a big strikeout looking to end the inning.

In the fourth inning, the Shockers had two runners on base with two outs. A ball in the infield should have gotten the Huskers out of the jam, but an error allowed the runner to reach, loading the bases. A double scored three runs, giving Wichita State a 5-2 lead.

In the fifth, the Shockers hit a solo homer to go up 6-2.

McDonald retired 17 batters before Nebraska finally got a base runner in the top of the sixth when Simmons drew a two-out walk. However, she was stranded as a fly out got the Shockers off the field.

The Shockers and the Huskers will play game two of the doubleheader at approximately 3:38 p.m.
