Huskers Finish Second, Qualify for NCAA Super Regional

Ann Arbor, Mich. -- The No. 14 Nebraska women's gymnastics team finished second at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional, earning a spot in the NCAA Super Regional. The Huskers will compete Saturday, April 6 at 6 p.m. CT.

Senior Sienna Crouse was the lone Husker to take home an event title, earning the all-around event title with a score of 39.600, tying the seventh all-around score put up by a Huskers in post-season competition, set by Head Coach Heather Brink in 2000. 

UCLA's Kyla Ross took home three event titles, on vault, uneven bars and a share of balance beam with teammate Katelyn Ohashi. Natalie Wojcik of Michigan won the floor exercise event title with a score of 9.925.

In the first session, No. 10 Alabama finished in first with an overall team score of 197.225, with No. 7 Michigan coming in second with an overall team score of 196.950. Penn State and Ohio State finished in third and fourth, respectively, concluding their seasons.

The Huskers will take on No. 2 UCLA, No. 7 Michigan and No. 10 Alabama with the top two teams advancing to the NCAA Semifinals in Fort Worth, Texas on April 19.

Rotation One
The Huskers began the meet on balance beam looking to get off to a hot start. Sierra Hassel led the way for the Huskers in the anchor spot for her sixth 9.90 or better on the season on beam. Senior Megan Schweihofer was right behind her with a 9.875, as well as fellow senior Crouse earning herself a 9.85. Sarah Hargrove stuck her routine for a 9.75 and Houchin finished with a score of 9.725. Catelyn Orel finished with a 9.05 due to a fall. NU combined for a team score of 49.100 after the first rotation.

Nebraska found themselves in third after the first rotation behind UCLA who finished on vault with a team score of 49.400, including a perfect 10.0 from Kyla Ross, and West Virginia who finished on floor exercise with a team score of 49.175. The Huskers led Illinois after the Illini finished on uneven bars with a team score of 49.075.

Rotation Two
Moving onto floor exercise, Crouse led the way for the Huskers as she finished with a 9.90, her sixth 9.90 or better on floor this season. Hassel and Orel both ended amazing routines for 9.85, with Adnerys De Jesus right behind them as she hit with a 9.825. Abby Johnston earned herself a 9.775 and Houchin rounded out the team on floor exercise with a 9.65. NU combined for a team score of 49.200 on floor exercise. 

Nebraska jumped Illinois after the second rotation only trailing UCLA who finished on uneven bars with a score of 49.400 and an overall teams core of 98.800. Illinois finished on balance beam with an event score of 49.025 and an overall team score of 98.100, while West Virginia finished on vault with an event score of 48.475 and an overall team score of 97.650. 

Rotation Three
Next onto vault, NU finished with an event score of 49.300. Houchin set a new season high, while tying a career high on vault with a 9.975, including two 10.0s from judges. Houchin's score also ties the second best score put up by a Husker in the post season. Crouse stuck with her second 9.90 of the night, while De Jesus and Verceles Carr both stick for 9.85s. Anika Dujakovich and Kaylee Quinn rounded out the Huskers on vault with a 9.725 and a 9.70, respectively. 

Nebraska still found themselves in second place going into the final rotation, still trailing UCLA who finished with an event score of 49.500 on balance beam for a team score of 148.300. Illinois was not far behind the Huskers, finishing with an event score of 49.175 on floor exercise for a combined team score of 147.275. West Virginia finished with an event score of 48.875 on uneven bars and a combined team score of 146.525, remaining in fourth. 

Rotation Four
Heading into the final rotation on uneven bars, Nebraska looked to lock up a second place finish and a chance to compete in the super regionals. Crouse sought to make that happen, finishing her night with a 9.95 on uneven bars. Houchin and Verceles Carr both ended their nights with 9.85s, with Hargrove sticking her routine for a 9.825. Orel and De Jesus finishing out the Huskers with scores of 9.725 and 9.675, respectively. Nebraska finished with an event score of 49.200 on uneven bars.

In the all-around for Nebraska, Crouse finished with a 39.600 and Houchin ended her night with a 39.200. 

Nebraska clinched a second place finish, as the Huskers will go on to compete in the super regional against No. 2 UCLA, who finished with a team score of 49.375 on floor exercise and a final of 197.675. Illinois finished their season on vault with an event score of 49. and an overall team score of 196.175, along with West Virginia who finished their season with an event score of 48. on balance beam and an overall teams score of 195.425.
