Eleven former Nebraska bowlers completed the qualifying round of the U.S. Women's Open on Thursday evening in Las Vegas. Of the 11 bowlers, six former Huskers will be advancing to the Cashers' Round on Friday.
Four former Huskers completed the qualifying round and are currently in the top-14. Recent All-American Julia Bond retained her spot at fourth and leads the Big Red contingent with a total pinfall of 4,988 (207.83 avg.). Meghan Straub, a 2019 All-American at Nebraska, is in 11th-place with a three-day total of 4,895 pins (203.96 avg.). Erin McCarthy had the biggest jump, moving from 25th on day two to 13th last night with a total pinfall of 4,888 (203.67 avg.). Liz Kuhlkin moved up two spots to 14th (4,880, 203.33).
Lindsay (Baker) Boomershine and Diandra (Hyman) Asbaty will also join the Huskers who are in the top-14 in the next round by finishing the qualifying round in the top-36. (Baker) Boomershine maintained her spot at 29th with a total pinfall of 4,772 (198.83). (Hyman) Asbaty had the second-biggest jump for the former Huskers, moving from 41st to 30th with a pinfall of 4,766 (198.58).
The six former Huskers now advance to a Cashers' Round and will bowl eight more games to determine the top 24 in round-robin match play. The first of three eight-game rounds of match play begins Friday at 7 p.m. (CT). Total pinfall, including bonus pins, for 56 games will determine the five finalists in the stepladder finals.
