The Nebraska men's gymnastics team announced their captain selections for the 2020 season. The team and coaches voted this summer and selected Jake Bonnay, Griffin Kehler and Zach Peters for the upcoming season.
Coach Chuck Chmelka announced these selections recently after a practice.
All-American Jake Bonnay, will lead the team as a captain and the only senior for the 2020 season. At the 2019 NCAA Championships, Bonnay competed on floor, vault, and high bar to help the Huskers to a third place finish, the best finish since 1999. Bonnay earned All-America honors on floor scoring a 14.40. Bonnay spent the summer competing on the Canadian National Team at the 2019 FISU Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy. Bonnay finished 8th on pommel horse with a score of 12.90. Bonnay is also a leader outside of the gym receiving Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2018 and 2019.
Junior Griffin Kehler joins Bonnay as a captain for the 2020 season. Kehler earned All-America honors in 2018 after notching a 14.20 on floor. Kehler has consistently competed for the Huskers on floor, parallel bars and high bar throughout his first two seasons. Kehler will also bring leadership outside of the gym receiving spots on the Tom Osborne Citizenship team and the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll the past two years.
Alongside Bonnay and Kehler, Zach Peters will also serve as a captain for the 2020 season. Peters competed consistently on vault and floor during the 2019 season. Peters, a junior, has competed at the NCAA Championship Finals in 2018 and 2019. Peters is also an Academic All-Big Ten and Tom Osborne Citizenship team honoree.
Bonnay, Kehler and Peters hope to lead the team back to the NCAA Championship Finals for the fourth year in a row. The Huskers will start the 2020 season off on January 11th at the Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs, CO.
