The Nebraska softball team swept a doubleheader against Omaha on Sunday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers won game one by a score of 4-2 before winning game two by a score of 5-1.
Nebraska combined for nine hits. Senior Tristen Edwards led the Huskers going 3-for-5 on the day with four runs, two RBIs, a double and a homer. Edwards also drew two walks on the day. Payton Huscroft also had multiple hits, finishing with two. She also had an RBI and drew one walk. Peyton Glatter, Samantha Owen, Anni Raley and Carson Fischer each had one hit as well for Nebraska.
In the circle, Olivia Ferrell, Courtney Wallace and Karlee Seevers each saw playing time.
Game 1: NEB - 4, UNO - 2
NU took a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Bree Boruff got on base with a walk and stole second. Edwards plated two with a home run. In the fourth, the Huskers scored two more runs. Boruff reached on an error and two straight walks loaded the bases. Glatter singled to score one and Ally Riley hit a sac fly to score another.
Omaha got on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring a pair of runs off two hits and a Husker error.
In the circle, Ferrell picked up the win going a complete 7.0 innings. She gave up three hits, two unearned runs and had seven strikeouts.
Both teams recorded three hits and each team had one error.
Game 2: NEB - 5, UNO - 1
UNO took a 1-0 lead in the first off two hits and a Husker error. Nebraska responded in the bottom of the inning scoring one run. Edwards hit a leadoff double and moved to third on a groundout. Glatter hit a sac fly that brought in the run.
The Huskers took the lead in the second. Payton Huscroft drew a leadoff walk and Boruff pinch ran for her. Boruff stole second before Fischer doubled to score her.
Nebraska extended the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs with help from one UNO error. Edwards hit a leadoff single and stole second. Glatter drew a one-out walk to put a pair of runners on. Raley singled to load the bases. Keana Pola reached on an error that allowed two runs to score and Huscroft singled to score another run for the Huskers.
Courtney Wallace earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings. She gave up four hits and one run. Karlee Seevers pitched a scoreless 1.0 inning of relief.
As a team, Nebraska had six hits and three errors. Omaha had four hits and two errors.
Nebraska continues its fall season on Oct. 6 when the team travels to Ames, Iowa, for a doubleheader against Iowa State beginning at noon.
