Huskers Split Iowa State Doubleheader

Ames, Iowa – The Nebraska softball team split a doubleheader against Iowa State on Sunday. The Huskers won the first game by a score of 8-5, before dropping the second game, 10-1.
 
Game 1: Nebraska - 8, Iowa State - 5
In the top of the first, Tristen Edwards was hit by a pitch and stole second. Cam Ybarra, Peyton Glatter and Keana Pola drew three straight walks to score one run. 
 
The Cyclones tied it up in the bottom of the second scoring one run. 
 
In the top of the fourth, Nebraska regained the lead scoring four runs to go up 5-1. Pola hit a leadoff home run and a pair of infield singles put two more Huskers on base. Olivia Ferrell doubled to plate two more runs. Ferrell scored after a wild pitch and a passed ball. 
 
In the top of the fifth, Edwards singled and reached third on a fielder's choice and a passed ball. Then, Lexey Kneib hit an infield single to score Edwards and extend the lead to 6-1. Iowa State responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to cut the lead to 6-4. 
 
In the seventh, Edwards hit a two-run homer to put the Huskers up 8-4. The Cyclones hit a solo homer in the bottom of the inning, but it wouldn't be enough to catch the Huskers.
 
Game 2: Nebraska – 1, Iowa State - 10
Nebraska took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Rylie Unzicker drew a leadoff walk and reached third after a fielder's choice and a passed ball. With a runner on first, Nebraska called a double steal and Unzicker scored. The Cyclones scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
 
Iowa State extended its lead in the bottom of the second to 3-1. The Cyclones scored two more in the fourth to go up 5-1. ISU plated two more in the fifth, before scoring three more runs in final two innings. 
 
Nebraska concludes its fall season next weekend as the Huskers host the Big Red Fall Classic Oct. 12-13. Nebraska plays a doubleheader against Colorado State on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Then, the Huskers play South Dakota on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. All games are at Bowlin Stadium and admission is free.
