Huskers Remain in Fifth After Day Three of Mizzou Invite

The Nebraska swimming and diving team just finished its third day in the Mizzou Invite with just one day left in the meet. The Huskers remain in fifth place out of thirteen different teams competing in the meet after scoring 245 points throughout the first three days in Missouri. The team had 12 swimmers and two divers compete in tonights final events.

Starting things off hot, Madison Coughlen improved from her fourth place finish in the prelim races and finished in second place (4:15.03) in the 400 yard IM, by shaving nearly three seconds off of her original time. Freshman Berkeley Livingston also finished with a good performance, landing in 12th place (4:19.80), good for fourth place in the B-Final.

Autumn Haebig continued her successful performance from earlier in the day in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing in second place (1:47.47) in the A-Final. Savannah Savitt was the next Husker to finish, as she grabbed 14th place (1:50.27) in the race. The next three Huskers finished right behind one another, first led by Jessica Pentlarge. Pentlarge took 21st (1:51.43), followed by Carla Gonzalez in 22nd (1:52.94) and Audrey Coffey in 23rd (1:53.42).

In the 1 meter dice, Sara Troyer was the highest scoring Husker once again, splashing to a fourth place performance (280.80). She was in good company, followed by a solid performance from Hallie Roman, who landed in 12th place (244.55) for Nebraska.

Gwen Worlton was the first Husker to finish in the 100 yard breaststroke, racing to a 15th place finish (1:03.94). Tori Beeler (1:03.87) and Savannah Savitt (1:04.02) were the next to finish, placing one after another in 17th and 18th, good for first and second in the C-Final, respectively. Gabby Baratta rounded out the bunch with a solid 24th place (1:05.95) finish.

The final race of the Husker's individual swimming was the 100 yard backstroke. The race was led by Carla Gonzalez, who finished in 22nd (56.53). Not too far behind was Lindsey Stalheim who finished just two spots behind her teammate in 24th (57.92). Izzie Murray was the last Husker to finish the race, placing in 32nd (1:01.97) and ending the Husker's individual swimming night.

The first event of the evening was the 200 medley relay, where the Nebraska A relay with Haebig, Worlton, Murray and Beeler finished in 11th place (1:43.37). The Nebraska B relay led by Stalheim, Savitt, Barth and Gonzalez finished with a respectable 16th place finish (1:44.01).

The final event of the evening was the 800 free relay, where the team ended the night on a solid note. The Nebraska A relay featuring Haebig, Savitt, Pentlarge and Coughlen landed in fifth place (7:23.22), while the Nebraska B relay was fairly close behind in 10th (7:34.84), with swimmers Rosenthal, Lanaghen, Powers and Gonzalez.

The final scoring at the end of the third evening has Nebraska remaining in fifth place with 245 points. The four teams ahead of the Huskers include host Missouri (567.5) in first, Arkansas (463) in second, San Diego State (440) in third and BYU (251) in fourth. The invitational has just one more day, starting tomorrow Nov. 22, at 10 a.m.
